August 2007 Dear Orchestra Director: The Department of Music at Eastern Kentucky University is pleased to announce that it will host Middle School String Day on Saturday, October 20. A link to the tentative schedule for the day appears below. This program is designed for intermediate and advanced students, rather than beginners. However, should there be sufficient interest (see application #1), we may add a beginner (grade 1-2) orchestra this year. In the afternoon our faculty will present a clinic for students. In addition to a chamber music performance, there will be a question and answer period for the students. Students participating must be recommended by either their orchestra director or private teacher using the forms supplied on this site, one form for each student. Duplicate additional forms as needed. Student applications will be accepted on a first-received, first-served basis. Every effort will be made to include students from every school that applies prior to the deadline. All students must have the signed consent of a parent or guardian. Each student participating will be assessed a participation fee of $10.00 to cover the expenses of the day's activities. This fee will be due on the day of registration. Meals will be available at the students' expense on the campus or at local restaurants. For students and directors coming from distances too great to travel on Saturday morning, information on housing is available upon request. In order to provide the best musical and educational experience for your students, we ask that student applications reach our office on or before October 7th. Late applications make it difficult to ensure that students receive the music prior to October 20th. Thank you for your help in making Middle School String Day a success. Cordially, Jeremy Mulholland |
