General Information

The following information is being provided to assist students and teachers attending the Middle School Honors Band Clinic. Please read this material carefully and discuss it with the students from your school who will be attending. Because we have almost 600 students involved, every bit of assistance you can give to assure that the event moves smoothly will be appreciated. Five "equal" bands have been selected this year. Each student needs to bring his/her own folding music stand. We WILL NOT furnish stands. Thanks for your assistance in this matter.

Guest Conductors

The guest conductors for the EKU Middle School Honors Bands will be announced soon -
we are sure your youngsters will enjoy working with these fine conductors!

Arrival At The University

Participants should plan on arriving on the campus as near around 8:30 a.m. as is possible. Students arriving by bus will be met at the bus unloading area directly in front of the Foster Music and Jane Campbell Fine Arts Building. Students will be divided into groups reflecting the five bands to which they are assigned then taken directly to the rehearsal location for that group. The rehearsal locations are:

<> TBA- Brock Stage

  TBA -  Madison Middle

TBA- Foster Music Bldg Room 300

TBA - Foster Music Bldg Room 100

PLEASE ASK YOUR STUDENTS TO FOLLOW THE DIRECTIONS OF THE GUIDES AND MOVE IMMEDIATELY TO THE REHEARSAL LOCATION. RESTROOM FACILITIES ARE AVAILABLE IN EACH LOCATION.

Parking
Buses will be directed toward parking facilities on Kit Carson Drive. The buses MAY NOT remain in front of the music facilities. The buses will be within walking distance of the rehearsal facilities.

General Parking is available throughout campus. No parking permits are required on weekends unless otherwise posted.

Students arriving by automobile or by van should park immediately across from the Foster Music Building in the city parking lot. Guides will meet those students in the lobby of the Foster Music Building to escort them to the proper rehearsal location.

Teachers or chaperones should collect the $25.00 participation fee per student and bring the money to the officials located in Foster Music Building, Room 101 along with the registration listing included with this mailing. Make checks payable to "EKU Bands," with student’s names listed on the checks. Indicate the total amount of money turned in with this registration sheet. PLEASE, DO NOT replace students who cannot attend!!!
DO BRING MUSIC STANDS!!!

Meals and Housing

Eastern Kentucky University cannot assume responsibility for the housing and meals of the participants. Supervision of students is the responsibility of the band director or appointed supervisor from each school. The Food Court (bottom floor) in the Powell Center will be open for the students if they wish to eat on campus between 11:30 a.m. and 1:00 p.m., thus making it unnecessary to leave campus if you so choose.

Overnight housing is available from our local Motels. Click here for local motel listings. In most cases, the motels will be able to honor tax exempt certificates from your school and avoid the state tax. Directors MUST BRING A TAX EXEMPT FORM FROM THEIR BOARD OF EDUCATION to be exempt from the state tax but all must pay a hotel tax. When calling, indicate that you wish the special rate for students and teachers attending the Middle Schools Honors Bands at EKU.

Students Need to Bring

All students should bring their own instruments, music stands and additional reeds, valve oil etc. PERCUSSIONISTS SHOULD PLAN ON BRINGING THEIR OWN STICKS, MALLETS. We may be able to supply a limited number of the very large instruments IF WE ARE NOTIFIED IN ADVANCE. They will also need money for two meals.

DID WE MENTION MUSIC STANDS?
