Originally from Tennessee, Danny attended the University of Mississippi receiving a Bachelor and a Master of Music Education Degree.
In his 30 years of public school teaching, he has taught in Mississippi, Georgia, Texas and Kentucky. Presently, Danny team teaches with his wife, Paula, at the Owensboro 5-6 Center and Owensboro Middle School with over 300 students enrolled in band grades 5 - 8. The Owensboro Middle School band consistently earns "distinguished" ratings at contest festival and was selected to perform at the Kentucky Music Educators Association state convention in 2003 and again in 2005.
Mr. Humphreys has remained active as a performing musician playing trumpet in many community musical productions as well as playing flugelhorn for the Bend in the River Brass Band.
Danny and his wife Paula have three children, Jennifer, a graduate student at Rice University, Sarah, a senior at Western Kentucky University and John a sophomore at the University of Louisville.
Paula graduated from the Interlochen Arts Academy and attended Indiana University, where she received a Bachelor of Music Education degree and a Master of Music degree in flute performance. While there, she was awarded the Opperman Memorial Scholarship for outstanding students in flute study and was chosen as winner of the Music Teacher's National Association Woodwind competition held in Chicago.
Mrs. Humphreys taught public school music in Indiana and Texas before moving to Owensboro in 1988. She has served as past director of the Owensboro Symphony Youth Orchestra, flute instructor for Kentucky Wesleyan College, and has served on the faculty of Music at Maple Mount.
Currently, Paula team teaches instrumental music for the Owensboro Public
Schools and is on the staff of the Summer Institute for Young Artists in Owensboro. She was chosen as the District 2 Elementary Music Teacher of the Year in 2000, the 2006 Owensboro Education Association Middle School Teacher of the Year, and has recently been named as the 2007 Middle School Music Teacher of the Year from District 2.
Mrs. Humphreys is an active musician in the community performing with the Owensboro Symphony, the Murphy Trio, the River City Winds and serving as organist/choir director for the Zion United Church of Christ.
