Charles F. Campbell Jr., a native
of Louisville, Kentucky received his BA in music education
from Eastern Kentucky University and his MA from Austin Peay
State University. He is currently in his twenty-seventh year
of teaching and his twelfth year as director at North Hardin
High School. Under his direction the band program at North
Hardin has received the Sudler Shield from the John Phillip
Sousa Foundation. The symphonic band has performed on two
occasions at the Kentucky Music Educators Association Conference
and has recently been invited to the 2002 Conference. Charles
was director of bands at East Hardin High School, George Rogers
Clark High School, and a vice-president of Henco, Incorporated.
In 1998, Mr. Campbell was named as Outstanding Bandmaster
in Kentucky by the Phi Beta Mu International School Bandmasters
Fraternity. He has received the National Band Association
Citation of Excellence four times and the Certificate of Merit
for Marching Excellence on three occasions. Mr. Campbell was
honored as an inaugral participant into the Contest of Champions
Hall of Fame. He is highly active as a clinician, having served
as a guest conductor and adjudicator throughout the United
States and Canada. He has served as past president of Phi
Beta Mu, Kentucky state chairman for the National Bands Association,
and has twice served as Kentucky state chairman for bands.
He currently serves on two national advisory boards for the
Midwest Clinic Advisory Panel for the Midwest International
Band and Orchestra Conference and the Bands of America. Advisory
Panel for the Midwest International Mr. Campbell is an Ashland
Oil Golden Apple Teacher Award recipient and in 1999 was honored
in the Hardin County School district as one of five EXCEL
award finalists.

Named EKU Music Alumnus of
the Year

Mr. Campbell is unable to attend Homecoming because of
previous commitments. The Alumni Award will be given during
the 2002 High School Honor Band Clinic February 21-23. Chuck
Campbell has already agreed to conduct the 2002 White Honors
Band during this event. It is our hope that many of the Alumni
will be able to attend.
