Course Objectives:
To become familiar with percussion teaching, performance, and research.

Teaching Percussion, Cook

Materials:
Notebook, manuscript paper, drum sticks, practice pad.

1 pair of concert snare drum sticks – May be purchased at any local music store

1 Pair of rubber marimba Mallets - Purchase through Steve Wiess Music (Vic Firth M152) $20-22 (215) 659-0100

Grading:
You must first pay $5.00 for the use of an EKU practice pad. Please get receipt from Mrs. Howe.

Grading based on a 100 pt. system broken down as follows:

Attendance 20%
Playing Tests 30% - 2
Papers 20% - 2
Final 30%

9/1 Rolls - Buzz/double stroke (5,7,9,13 – Rhythmic skeleton)

9/8 Rolls Continued/Rhythmic study

9/13 Paradiddles, Flams, Drags, Ratamacues- Read Chapter 2

9/15 Quiz over chapter 2/ Rudiments /sticking exercises/ Downfall of Paris

9/20 Lecture Marching percussion/ writing a Drumline Cadence

9/22 Read through cadence assignments -

9/27 Review of Snare drum Literature/ Downfall of Paris

9/29 Snare drum test / Read Chapter 4

10/04 Lecture on Chapter 4 "Introduction to Mallet percussion"- Paper #1 Due

KEYS FOR PRACTICE ROOMS ARE AVAILABLE IN MUSIC LIBRARY. YOU MUST CHECK OUT KEY WITH MALLETS AND RETURN THEM SAME DAY. ALL OTHER MATERIALS WILL BE PROVIDED

ATTENDANCE AT THE PERCUSSION ENSEMBLE CONCERT WILL COUNT EQUAL TO ATTENDING A CLASS. IF YOU MISS OVER 3 CLASSES- YOUR SEMESTER GRADE WILL BE LOWERED BY ONE LETTER. ANYTHING OVER 5 ABSENCES WILL RESULT IN AN F
