For my 30 second voice over I had no problem talking over my previous
recording. I just recorded my voice in the areas where there was no
recording from the previous recording. I transformed my voice down to a
deep soulful tone to add that extra something to it. It was fun
recording it.
When I was contemplating my 3 minute composition, I had trouble
deciding what instruments and beats to use. I would go through about 5
different beats and melodies, but could’t find the right mix
that would sound great together and be in time. So after a few minutes
to think about it, it dawned on me to use a simple
“hip-hop” mix and add some scratches to it to make
it sound like you were at a party or some club with your friends. Since
the composition had to be in some type of form I decided to use the
simple ternary form of ABA. For the B part, I used a subdued recording
I found in Garageband and added some improv trumpet section to add a
jazzy feel to the B section. For the second “A” I
used the “hip-hop” themed again and the scratch
section, but I added an effect to the scratch to make it sound darker.
