Animal Commercial
My 30 second sound wipe was the first project I
created with GarageBand and I ended up with the
theme for a commercial for a show about the African
jungle. Since this was my first project I found, through
trial and error, that I used too many sound clips to create
the unique sound I envisioned. I noticed that there were
not many animal sound effects, so I opted to create
my own. The effects you can add to a vocal recording
were great to use because I was able to find a style to
fit the theme of the commercial.
A Soothing Melody
My three-minute song was tricky to write, in the sense that it
was difficult to follow a form.
I decided upon writing my piece
in ABA form and the contrasting section provided problems
because I modulated to a different key. However, with the right
transitions, I found a way to make the contrasting section fit.
Some special things I used were doubling of the melodies, as if
a round, in order to add more texture to the piece; also, I added
chords and supporting melodies to help the texture.
Disney Pod cast
I chose to do my Podcast on a trip my family and I took
to Disney World in 2006. My podcast was probably the
most difficult project to create because I used both GarageBand
and iMovie. After spending some time figuring out transitions
and the lengths of each clip, I imported the clips to GarageBand
where I added my audio. I used a different song for almost every
clip, therefore, I gained much experience cutting up songs and
fading them altogether.
Audacity
Round 1
Round 2
Audacity was my first experience with recording; more so
than with GarageBand. I mainly just fooled around with moving
things around and creating rounds. I also messed with tempo
changes and voicing.
Digital Performer
Round
The round was my first experience with Digital Performer.
It was intersting learning all of the different controllers and
patch changes. I found it unique understanding the notes in the
event list windowand understanding how to read the music with
numbers and percentages.
Accompaniment
My accompaniment project was my most difficult project in this class.
I found it most difficult trying to play the music in time and correctly.
Luckily with digital performer, you are able to manipulate wrong notes and
rhythms in order to make them accurate. I probably spent most of
my time on this project; however, it is satisfying to hear the
final results.
Sibelius
Duke Ellington: Cotton-Tail
Mahler: Kindertotenlieder
Sibelius was my music entry program. I like how easy it
was to enter the notes and rhythms. It was a little hard to find
different expressions and, also, dragging slurs and crescendos
were very difficult to do.
Finale
Mahler: Wieder
The hardest thing I encountered with finale was note imputation and
page layout. It was hard to space everything out evenly when you are
no longer in studio view. The easiest thing i found is that I was able to
add text and expressions all at once and things were easy to move
when I needed to center things.
