Miss Diana Wrobel, a junior music performance major, is currently attending Eastern Kentucky Univerity. She's a member of the clarinet studio and clarinet choir, where she plays bass clarinet for the ensemble. This year the clarinet choir will be performing at KMEA in Louisville, Ky in Febuary, the Clairnet Symposium in Tulsa, Oklahoma in June, and at the International Clarinet Festival in Washington D.C. in July.
Diana is from Detroit, MI and grew up in a musical family. Her father has a bacholors degree in trumpet, and locally, he plays for area churches, teaches lessons, and once in a while plays in a polka band. Her mother has an M.A. in instrumental music, and teaches band at a city Lutheran school. Diana's siblings also are involved in music. It would have been inconceviable for her to do anything but music.
Diana started playing clarinet in the fourth grade at Mt. Calvary Lutheran School in Detroit, where she had her mother as a band director. When she was in sixth grade, she was invited to play with Lutheran High East's concert band. She went to Lutheran East High School, and participated in the MSBOA (Michigan State Band and Orchestra Association) solo and ensemble compitions. She passed the District level and made it to State all four years. Her senior year she successifully completed the Profissency III level on Bass Clarinet. She also played in the Metropolitain Symphonic Band for a year, EMU Honor's Band one year, sat in with the Ponitica-Oakland Symphony playing bass clarinet on Mahler's first symphony, and played with Youth Band at the Univeristy of Michigan for two years. All through out grade and high school, Diana studied privately with Wendy Webster-Fischer.
At EKU, Diana participates in the marching band, where she has been section leader and a member of the band council. She plays bass clarinet for the wind ensemble, symphonic band, and clarinet choir; and also performs in the concert band playing B flat clarinet. Diana has also sat in with the orchestra and jazz band for pieces that call for bass clarinet. Even though her major is performance, she has shown an interest in learning how to repair insturments and looks forward to doing so after she graduates.
