Welcome - Rob James (Chair) |

It is easy to understand
why Plato considered music the highest art. He described it as a force
that could move men to battle. Congreve knew it could calm the savage
beast. Aristotle called it a force that could not be harnessed in solid
form like sculptures or paintings - a force felt but unseen. Early scholars
considered music an essential component of the Quadrivium
(Arithmetic, Geometry, Music, and Astronomy). Music was the way to leap
beyond logic.
Plato, Aristotle, and numerous early scholars could not imagine a world without music. Can you? Modern economic conditions and state funding cuts threaten the very existence of our highest art. Would you like to help the EKU Department of Music nurture and develop the talented young musicians of the future? There are numerous ways to help. You can offer a tax deductible donation, create a scholarship, assist with the purchase of instruments or uniforms, offer goods and services, donate your time at special events and fund raisers, or simply write a letter of support. Many Businesses and Corporations prefer matching grants. No gift is too small and we greatly appreciate them all:
Please contact the Department of Music to see how you can help sponsor the future of our young musicians; or, go directly to the EKU charitable contributions page to make your pledge. (Be sure to specify the Department of Music when making your contribution). The Department of Music |
