Overview of Program
The Eastern Kentucky University Marching Colonel Band is an exciting
and innovative ensemble presenting high energy performances throughout
the EKU football season. The Marching Colonels perform at
all home games and pre-selected away games featuring
classical, patriotic, jazz, oldies, and modern pop rock repertoire.
Marching Colonel Membership is open to ALL EKU STUDENTS regardless
of major. The Marching Colonel Band Class (MUS256) will fulfill
Eastern Kentucky Universities Physical Education Requirement #18.
ALL Marching Colonels receive a stipend for participation.

Rehearsals
Band Rehearsals are Mon.,Tues. and Thurs. afternoons from 4:00-5:30pm
and on Fridays before game days. Majority of rehearsals will take
place on the Marching Colonel Practice Field next to Roy Kidd Stadium.
Periodically, rehearsals will be held in the Foster Music Building
Room 300 for musical rehearsals or due to inclement weather. Game
schedule and rehearsal dates will be noted in course syllabus.

Drum Major(s)
Drum major auditions are held at the end of the fall semester. Selection of
Drum Majors is based upon experience, conducting knowledge and ability,
personality, leadership qualities, dependability, appearance on
the field, and overall attitude. The only prerequisite to auditioning
for Drum Major is to have been a member of the Marching Colonels
for at least one season. Audition dates and times will be

Winds and Brass Auditions
Auditions for the EKU Marching Colonels Winds are not necessary
except for those wishing to be in leadership position. Leadership
applications can be obtained from Mr. Haddix's office located in
the Foster Music Building Room # 109. Applications must
include a short essay regarding leadership capabilities and qualities.
Deadlines for applications will be posted. Please contact Secretary

Percussion Auditions
The drum line is selected by auditions held by Percussion Instructor
and Assistant Marching Band Instructor, Jason Koontz. For further information

Colorguard and Majorette Auditions
Colorguard and Majorette Auditions are held in April. Colorguard
will need to bring one 5 1/2 and one 6 ft. pole with flags. Majorettes
need to bring batons and a battery operated player for your music.
Call for a copy of the EKU fight song to to prepare and also bring
one additional routine of your choice. Dates will be announced
at the Marching Colonel Home Page each Spring Semester or you may
contact Secretary of EKU Bands Lisa Stanley at 859.622.3161 for
further information and/or to be applied to our Guard/Majorette
mailing lists.

Band Camp
Marching Colonel Band camp is held one week prior to the start
of fall classes beginning on Wednesday morning and ending on Sunday
afternoon. All Marching Colonels members living in EKU dormitories
will be allowed to move onto campus prior to and during camp. Freshmen
will be required to move on campus a few days earlier than the camp
itself due to Freshman Orientation events. This early arrival will
allow each individual to get settled, get aquatinted with Campus
Beautiful,(buy books and other classroom materials) and make new
friends. Lunch and Dinner are not provided.

Travel
The EKU Marching Colonels will generally travel at least once a
year on a overnight trip with possible stops at local high schools
for exhibition and for an away football game. Travel expenses such
as transportation and lodging are provided by the University.

Finances
Eastern Kentucky University provides the majority of financial
support for the Marching Colonels. Students will be required to
purchase white marching shoes and white marching gloves. Each Marching
Colonel Member will receive the annual "Marching Colonels T-shirt".
Other products such as jackets and hats are available but are not
required. Uniforms and Instrumental Check-Out are provided without
charge.

Executive Band Council
The Executive Band Council is voted upon at the close of each season.
The Council is in short, a spokesgroup for the band members.
EKU Band Council plays a major role in the program's success. The
Band Council is open to all comments, suggestions, or questions
from both active and future members. Each year, the newly-elected Council will be introduced during band camp.
